The Chamber Music Workshop is a professional workshop that comprises all classical instrumental chamber music education. Not every professor teaching chamber music was a member of the former Department of Chamber Music, as chamber music teachers were active at other departments as well (e.g. Woodwinds and Brass Department). Also, in case of instruments with special chamber music repertoire (e.g. dulcimer, percussion instruments) professors of main subjects also teach chamber music. The Chamber Music Workshop has been created to eliminate this fragmentation. Its tasks are to form policies for education, and to discuss and harmonize questions related to artistic issues and educational organization.

Bartók presented an austere, forbidding front to the world and even in those years, when he was still in his mid-forties, his reputation was daunting. Although he had received little official recognition and was widely regarded as a raving radical, we music students knew exactly how important he was, and we revered him. We were fully aware that there was an authentic genious teaching at our Academy. (Sir Georg Solti)
