1. T. Albinoni: Concerto in D minor - Op.9. Nr.2, 1-3 movements

 

2. R. Vaughn Williams: Concerto for tuba - 1-3 movements

 

3. One piece at the choice of the candidate.

 

4. Excerpts from the following orchestral parts from the book “Mark Evans, Klemens Pröpper:  Orchester-Probespiel für Tuba”:

 

Hector Berlioz: Symphony Fantastique

P. I. Tschaikowsky: Symphony No.4

R. Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

R. Wagner: Lohengrin - Vorspiel

Sergei Prokofiev: Symphony No.5 - contrabass tuba

Richard Wagner: Die Walküre /Der Ritt der Walküren/ - contrabass tuba

 

The candidate should show in-depth understanding of different music styles from Baroque style to contemporary.

 

Knowledge of the most important pieces of symphonic music literature, and the performance technique of the tuba part at proficient level.

 

 

General Admission Requirements – MA

 

Written examination:

 Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.

 Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano sonatas.

 

 Exam in general music studies:

 a. Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or the genre.

b. Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
