- one etude at a difficulty level of a Mazas etude

- a solo piece

- a movement of a concerto

 

Cello


- one solo piece at the choice of the candidate

- one or two piece(s) with piano accompaniment

 

Piano


- J.S.Bach: prelude and fugue
- one classical sonata

- one significant romantic piece

- one 20th century or 21th century piece

 

 

Solfège and music theory

 

For all candidates, the instrumental exam is followed by a solfège and music theory exam.


The examiners test the musical abilities corrresponding to the age of the candidate at a short audition. Questions usually cover identification and singing of note intervals, identification and singing of harmonies, memory of melodies and rhythms, sight singing, and the theory of these.
