Alma Mater Symphony Orchestra

Taking the growing demand for orchestral players into consideration, orchestral studies play an increasingly essential part of both BA and MA training at the Liszt Academy. Working with internationally acclaimed faculty and guest conductors, the Alma Mater Symphony Orchestra produces concerts of various genres and styles 5-6 times a year. The list of guest conductors in the previous years includes artists such as Helmuth Hilling, Peter Schreier, András Schiff, Zoltán Kocsis, Kálmán Berkes and György Vashegyi.

Students are selected to participate in each production of the orchestra on the basis of their instrument, individual capabilities, interests and ambitions. Part-time students are also welcome to participate in orchestral projects.

About 20-25 students of instrumental majors have the opportunity to play their diploma concert with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra. The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra welcomes Liszt Academy students to join their orchestra on these occasions, which is a unique opportunity to play with a renowned, professional ensemble.
